Introduce yourself.

Darren Tan, DJ and Co founder of Vinyl of the Day & White Label Records.

Describe your style in 3 words?

Dark, utilitarian, understated.

What does the Fred Perry Shirt mean to you?

Music subculture and how important it is for a brand to recognize what their brand represents outside of own brand story.

Which subcultures have had an enduring effect on you?

It will always be hardcore & punk, cause that’s how I grew up. But I have to say reading about these 3 great British movements:

1. The reggae soundsystem explosion

2. Acid house and the warehouse/squat rave scene

3. Jungle and Drum & Bass culture greatly influenced me

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?

George Orwell

Which music genre defines you?

Hard one but I’ve grown to prefer artists / music that sit outside fixed genre conventions, and more often then not these artists get slapped with a “Post” prefix, be it post rock, post metal, post rave, or even vaporwave or event this lofi hip hop/house movement maybe I just still have ADHD.

A song lyric that has inspired you?

“We gotta boot down, boot down, boot down the door Smash their oppression - smash their law!”
